Resize your downloaded photo
Format your signature and photograph to official government portal specifications in 10โ20 KB instantly.
If you already have a portrait exported from Remove.bg, the next task may be preparing it for a specific upload field. Background appearance, pixel dimensions and file size are separate checks. A transparent PNG can look correct while still using the wrong format or too many bytes.
Open the photo resizer with your downloaded image. SignResize is independent of Remove.bg; this guide explains how to continue working with an exported file.
1. Check whether editing is permitted
Read the receiving siteโs current instructions first. Do not assume that a white background makes an edited portrait acceptable. For example, U.S. passport guidance requires an original, unedited photo, while UK passport guidance requires photographs unaltered by computer software. Retake the photo when background replacement is not permitted.
2. Inspect the exported cutout
Open the downloaded image and look at hair, ears, glasses, shoulders and clothing edges. Check for missing areas and leftover background. Resizing and compression cannot recreate details that were removed. Use the original photograph if you need to redo the extraction.
3. Choose dimensions before file size
Upload the image to the photo resizer. Select a relevant preset only if it matches your current instructions, or enter custom pixel dimensions. Adjust the crop so that the required head and shoulders remain in frame. Check the preview for stretching and accidental cuts.
The resizer renders transparent areas on white. Select JPG for an opaque output when the receiving form asks for JPEG. If you need a transparent design asset instead, keep your original PNG or use the portrait background removerโs Transparent PNG download.
4. Set the actual KB rule
Instruction from the destination
Settings to enter
Maximum 20 KB
Maximum 20 KB; minimum 0 unless a minimum is specified
Maximum 50 KB
Maximum 50 KB; minimum from the instructions
Between 20 and 100 KB
Minimum 20 KB and maximum 100 KB
These examples are not official requirements for any particular application. SignResize displays KB using 1,024 bytes per KB. If a portal specifies an exact byte ceiling, keep the exported file below that ceiling.
Inspect the final file-size check before downloading. A lower limit can reduce image quality, and the combination of requested dimensions and size may not produce an acceptable result. Do not sacrifice readability just to satisfy a number.
5. Download and inspect the final JPG
Check the exported dimensions, format and actual file size. Open the downloaded JPG and inspect the face and outline. Test it in the intended upload field; this tool cannot guarantee acceptance by a third-party portal.
Need to remove the background first?
Remove.bg offers portrait background replacement. You can also use our photo background remover for a single-person portrait. Choose White, Transparent or Custom colour, inspect the edges, then select Resize Photo to carry a white-background copy into the resizer. This portrait workflow is not intended for product photographs, pets or group cutouts.
For handwriting on paper, use the separate signature background remover. Its paper and ink controls address a different kind of image.

Practical answers about this workflow and its limits.
Q1 Should I use 20 KB, 50 KB or 100 KB?
Use the limit stated by your destination. These are examples of upper limits, not a universal photo rule. If the form also gives a minimum, enter that minimum as well.
Q2 Does a white background make a photo compliant?
No. Photo requirements may also cover editing, capture method, head size, lighting, dimensions and file size. Some official destinations require an unedited photograph.
Q3 Can resizing fix missing hair or a blurred face?
No. Inspect the background-removal result before resizing. If important detail is missing, use a better original or retake the photo.
