Try your webcam before opening SSC
Get ready for the official capture
Start the camera to check lighting
The guide is a visual aid. We do not detect your face or assess exam eligibility.
Camera access starts only after you click. Audio is never requested. Stop the camera here before opening the official portal; switching away also stops it.
Open official SSC portal โWith the launch of Staff Selection Commission's modernized portal (ssc.gov.in), the traditional method of uploading a pre-clicked passport photo file has been officially replaced by a mandatory real-time live webcam photograph capture. While this prevents photo impersonation, thousands of candidates encounter browser permission crashes, dim lighting warnings, and facial detection errors.
Also Need to Upload Your SSC Signature?
SSC mandates a 140ร60 px (10 to 20 KB) signature in black ballpoint ink. Auto-crop & compress in 5 seconds.
โ ๏ธ Why Live Photo Matters for SSC 2026
Under SSC guidelines for CGL, CHSL, MTS, and GD Constable, an automated AI facial recognition filter matches your live webcam capture against your examination hall biometric scan. If your capture is blurry, backlit, or contains headwear, your application will be flagged during scrutiny.
Top 4 SSC Live Photo Capture Rules
1. Plain, Light-Coloured Background
Sit directly in front of a plain white, off-white, or light grey wall. Curtains with folds, door frames, or outdoor scenes trigger background rejection errors.
2. Frontal Face Position & Eye Level
Look straight into the camera lens with a neutral expression and mouth closed. Both ears must be fully visible. Do not tilt your head sideways or downwards.
3. Strict Prohibition on Caps & Spectacles
Even if you wear prescription glasses daily, SSC guidelines mandate removing spectacles, sunglasses, caps, mufflers, and face coverings during live capture.
4. Front-Facing Diffused Lighting
Light source (window or lamp) must illuminate your face directly from the front. Avoid having a bulb or window behind you, which causes dark silhouette underexposure.
How to Fix "Camera Not Allowed / Permission Denied" Error
The most frequent technical barrier is a blocked browser permission. Here is the step-by-step fix across devices:
๐ฑ On Android Smartphones (Google Chrome)
- Tap the Padlock or Tune icon on the left side of the address bar at
ssc.gov.in. - Select Permissions → Toggle Camera to Allowed.
- If still blocked: Open Chrome Settings → Site Settings → Camera → Ensure
ssc.gov.inis not under the "Blocked" list. - Refresh the webpage and click "Allow" when the browser prompt asks for camera access.
๐ป On Windows Laptop / PC
- Open Windows Settings (Win + I) → Privacy & Security → Camera.
- Ensure "Camera access" is ON and "Let desktop apps access your camera" is enabled for your browser.
- In Chrome, click the small video camera icon inside the address bar (far right) and choose "Always allow https://ssc.gov.in to access your camera".
What About the SSC Scanned Signature?
Unlike the photograph, SSC still requires uploading a scanned signature image file. The technical parameters remain strictly enforced:
- โ๏ธ File Size: Strictly between 10.0 KB and 20.0 KB.
- ๐ Dimensions: 140 pixels width ร 60 pixels height (4.0 cm ร 2.0 cm).
- ๐๏ธ Ink Color: Black ink ballpoint pen on plain white paper.
- ๐ซ Disqualification: Signatures in CAPITAL LETTERS will be summarily rejected.
