How to Beat the USAJOBS 5 MB Upload Constraint
When applying for federal GS pay-scale vacancies on USAJOBS.gov, the Document Manager enforces an uncompromising 5 MB per-file limit.
📄 SF-50 (Notification of Personnel Action)
Multi-year federal employees often need to upload multiple SF-50s to prove Time-in-Grade. High-DPI scanner files quickly exceed 10 MB.
🎖️ DD-214 (Veteran Preference)
Member-4 copy required for 5-point or 10-point veterans' preference must clearly show character of service and separation codes.
🎓 College Transcripts
Official transcripts with registrar seals and course credit hours must be legible for qualification evaluation under OPM standards.
📝 Comprehensive Federal Resume
Federal resumes span 4–8 pages outlining KSA (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities) narratives with exact weekly work hours.

Got Questions?
USAJOBS Document Upload FAQ
Authoritative answers regarding photo & signature specifications, file size rules, and official portal compliance.
How do I resize a signature?
Upload a clear image of your handwritten signature, crop unused paper, set the required dimensions and KB bounds, then download and inspect the JPG.
Which dimensions should I use for my exam?
Read the notice and upload field for your exact exam and cycle. There is no universal signature pixel size for every recruitment. Exam-specific pages explain the sources and any uncertainty.
How do I resize a photo and signature?
Prepare them separately using Photo or Signature mode. Match each upload field’s dimensions, format and file-size limits; do not assume both images share the same requirements.
Does a file-size check guarantee acceptance?
No. File checks compare the exported image with your selected settings. The authority also considers image quality, identity and its own application rules.
How do pixels, centimeters and KB differ?
Pixels describe width and height; KB measures file size. Centimeters depend on DPI. At 200 DPI, 140 × 60 pixels is about 1.78 × 0.76 cm, not 4 × 2 cm.
How can I clean the paper background?
Try Clean White Paper and compare the preview with your original. Reduce or disable cleanup if thin strokes disappear. Rescan an unreadable original rather than relying on compression to restore detail.
