A transparent PNG lets you place existing handwriting over a document without covering the page with a white rectangle. Start with a clear signature photograph or scan, remove the paper, and inspect the result before inserting it.
Use plain paper and even light. Keep the camera parallel to the sheet and leave space around every pen stroke. Avoid your phoneโs shadow. Blur and heavy shadows can hide detail that a background remover cannot reliably recover.
2. Remove the paper and inspect the ink
Choose your image in Signature mode and press Remove background. Select Transparent for the preview. Use Actual size and View original to compare loops, dots, the first and last strokes, and any underline.
If fine lines disappear, reduce Cleanup strength and apply removal again. Keep All ink selected for black handwriting. Blue / purple ink is useful for coloured ink on grey ruling, but it can remove black writing. Keep only the main signature can remove detached dots, so inspect those carefully when using it.
3. Download Transparent PNG
Choose Download Transparent PNG. The checkerboard indicates transparent areas; it is not part of the downloaded image. The PNG keeps the source image dimensions. Download White JPG is a separate output for destinations that require an opaque background.
Do not convert the cutout to JPG if you need transparency. A viewer may display a transparent PNG against white: place it over a coloured area to confirm whether the background is actually transparent.
4. Place the PNG in your document
In your document editor, use its image insertion control to add the downloaded PNG. In a PDF editor, use an image insertion feature if the editor provides one. Resize proportionally, crop unused transparent space if needed, and check the exported document before sharing it. Avoid enlarging a small signature until the strokes look pixelated.
This workflow prepares an image. It does not establish the identity of a signer or certify a document. Use the signing process requested by the recipient.
Already tried Remove.bg?
Remove.bg also offers signature background removal. If its result preserves your handwriting, a transparent PNG may already meet your document-layout needs. If a particular image loses thin strokes, return to the original and try the adjustable paper controls here. There is no quality guarantee for either workflow on every input.
Do not run a damaged cutout through more tools expecting missing ink to return. Retake or rescan the original when important strokes are absent.
Need a signature for an application form instead?
Read the current form instructions for format, dimensions and file-size limits. Use white signature background cleanup, then choose Resize for an Exam to carry the result into the resizer. Select the matching preset or enter the requested dimensions and KB range. There is no single size that applies to every application.

Practical answers about this workflow and its limits.
Q1 Why does my signature have a white box?
JPG cannot store transparency. Use Download Transparent PNG after removal. Some viewers show transparency as white, so test the PNG over a coloured area in your document.
Q2 Can I use a signature downloaded from Remove.bg?
Yes. Inspect the PNG for missing strokes first. If handwriting is missing, return to the original image and try the paper cleanup controls or a clearer scan. Resizing cannot recover lost ink.
Q3 Does inserting this PNG sign or certify a document?
The PNG is an image of handwriting. This tool does not provide identity verification, a signing audit trail or cryptographic certification. Follow the document recipientโs signing process.
